Wellbeing
At our school, student wellbeing and learning go hand in hand. We want every student to feel safe, included and ready to learn. Whether your child needs help with their mental, emotional, social or physical wellbeing, we are here to help them thrive at school and in daily life.
Learning Support
The school’s learning and support team plays a key role in ensuring we meet the specific needs of students with additional learning and support needs, including disability.
The team:
- supports teachers in identifying and responding to the additional learning needs of students
- facilitates and coordinates a whole-school approach to improving the learning outcomes of every student
- coordinates planning processes and resourcing for students with additional learning and support needs
- designs and implements the support required to build teacher capacity so that all students access quality learning
- develops collaborative partnerships with the school, parents and carers, as well as other professionals and the wider school community.
For more information on programs and services to help students with additional learning and support needs visit Disability, learning and support.
We recognise that our gifted and talented students must be supported in their learning, in order to turn their potential into talent.
We also recognise that there can be many barriers which can make navigating school-life difficult for some students. Our Learning Support Team is expertly trained to assist those students who may be facing challenges in their learning and school experience. Facets of our Learning Support Program include:
- Peer tutoring readily available for students
- Advice and resources on time management, study and stress management techniques for students on request, particularly senior students navigating their HSC
- Teachers Aides available for students who experience learning difficulties
- A range of support services available for students who require comprehensive disability and special needs support (See Caring for Students)
- Special Provisions for Examinations
Student Counselling
School counselling staff are members of the school learning and support team.
A teacher may recommend the service by referring a student to the school’s learning and support team. As a parent or carer, you may refer your child directly to the school counselling service. Students can also self-refer to the service.
The school counselling service can:
- support students who are worrying about school work, friends, getting in trouble at school or feeling down
- help parents and carers make decisions about your child’s education
- assess a student’s learning and behaviour
- help teachers and students identify and address disabilities that may affect learning
- liaise with other agencies regarding student wellbeing.
School counselling is confidential.

As an education facility which is plugged into the needs of 21st Century students, we understand the importance of keeping abreast of all issues relating to the mental health of young people. In an ever-evolving world where new pressures are increasingly placed upon youth, we recognise the demand for an open, attuned and tolerant understanding of mental health, underpinned by positive psychology and contemporary research around youth issues.
We employ welfare professionals dedicated to ensuring all students needs are met, not only by way of their academic education, but in terms of their resilience and emotional, mental and spiritual well-being. Counselling services are available and this service is conducted in a safe, respectful way.
We also promote a cross-community, collaborative approach to mental health, have connections with relevant mental health service providers and encourage parents to be active in monitoring their child's well-being across the whole spectrum of wellness.

The department is committed to creating quality learning opportunities for children and young people. These opportunities support wellbeing through positive and respectful relationships and fostering a sense of belonging to the school and community.
The Wellbeing Framework for Schools helps schools support the cognitive, physical, social, emotional and spiritual development of students and allows them to connect, succeed and thrive throughout their education.
Student Welfare
Student Welfare is the concern of every member of staff at Gosford High School. In its widest context, it covers the safety of all students in our care, their emotional, social and intellectual wellbeing and their conduct and behaviour. We believe in educating our students holistically and their development into functioning, engaging and positive young adults is of primary consideration to all programs we offer.
At Gosford High School, we pride ourselves on our diversity. We strive to teach our students how to celebrate and learn from difference, for their own benefit and for the vitality of our wider community.
We believe equity and equal opportunity are crucial within education and demonstrate a commitment to racial, cultural, gender and sexual diversity. By promoting respect, tolerance and curiosity, we strive to make Gosford High School a safe haven for all students where they are free to be themselves.
Our school environment welcomes and respects people from all backgrounds. We work with you to provide a safe and caring learning environment for your child and also keep informed about support for school families.
Positive Behaviour for Learning
At our school, we use Positive Behaviour for Learning a whole school approach for creating a positive, safe and supportive school climate where students can learn and develop. Our whole school community works together to establish expected behaviours and teach them to all students.
