Personal development, health and physical education

Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.

According to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), students are expected to participate in PDHPE for 300 hours per year in Years 7 to 10.

PDHPE provides students with opportunities to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others – now and in the future. Students also participate in challenging and enjoyable physical activity, improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence.

In Year 11 and 12, courses available include:

  • Community and Family Studies
  • Exploring Early Childhood
  • Personal Development, Health and Physical Education
  • Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation Studies.

Sport and physical activity

Our school has a strong sporting tradition and excels regionally and state-wide, with a number of students representing Gosford High School each year. A strong and successful tradition of annual inter-school visits with Orange High School began in 1968 and continues today as a wonderful example of sportsmanship and camaraderie.

We offer students the opportunity to participate in a wide range of school sporting teams including: Football, Cricket, Soccer, Tennis, Hockey, Softball, Waterpolo, Netball, Touch Football and Volleyball.

We also host our annual Cross Country, Athletics and Swimming Carnival throughout the year. These events are always a huge amount of fun and showcase the tremendous sporting talent we have at Gosford High, as well as the sense of sportsmanship, fair play and team spirit which is so fundamental to their success.
