Multicultural Education

GHS provides opportunities for students to gain an appreciation and understanding of the multicultural nature of the Australian population.

All students in Year 8 study a language to enhance their understanding of other cultures in their world. Many students take the opportunity to go participate in exchange programs in order to gain an appreciation of a language and culture in a day to day situation.

We also welcome students from abroad for extended stays at our school. We have been presented with a certificate recognising the school's ‘dedication to building a more just and peaceful world through intercultural understanding' by supporting and accepting exchange students.

As a school we celebrate Harmony Day, a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home, from the traditional owners to those who have come from many countries around the world. By participating in Harmony Day activities, students learn and understand how all Australians from diverse backgrounds equally belong to and enrich our culture and society.
